How Big is Your God?

Our God is So Glorious
by Mike Andrews

How big is our God? Can you fit God in your pocket? Can you put God into a box? We His created children cannot contain the glories of the Lord. Even the Heaven’s cannot contain the glories of the Lord. A God who is glorious, a God who is infinite, a God who is all wise and all powerful, a God who is patient and merciful, a God who is just God who is love. I want to ask you a question. Do you have a high view of God? or Do you have a low view of God?
  • A high view of God
Is your view of God more glorious then anything you can think of?
Is He your greatest treasure above all things over your friends, over your stuff e.g.: (mp3, computers, clothing, music, movies).
    a. Job had a high view of God (Job 42)
    b. Moses had a high view of God (Exodus 3)
    c. David had a high view of God (Psalm 145)
    d. The apostle Paul had a high view of God
Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ (Phil 3:8)
  • A low view of God
Is He only important when want something? e.g.: (a genie in a bottle, your good luck charm, or arm bracelet)
Is He only important when you are around your Christian Parents or Christian friends
Is He only important on Easter, Christmas, and Sundays
Is He only important when you feel like it? e.g.: (I’ll pray later, I’ll read my Bible when I get around to it) But He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?" And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!" (Mark 4:40-41) This is a low view of God. The One who allows us to breath our next breath. The One who cared so much for His creation that He would come to this earth in the form of a common man, and endure the cross for all humanity. (Phil- 2:6-8) who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
Scriptures is full of God's sovereign plan for mankind. It always displays a high view of God ( which is one of the most important attribute God characterizes). It gives the all powerful, all knowing, everywhere present God. The one who we serve with our whole life, because He gave up His, so that we could have life more abundantly. (John 10:10-11) ".... I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. "The chief end of man is to glorify God BY enjoying him forever." John Piper. He is Sovereign (our God is in total control). One of God’s attributes is that He is sovereign which means: Supreme in power; possessing supreme authority; as a sovereign ruler of the universe. Supreme; superior to all others; chief. God is the sovereign good of all who love and obey him. Supremely superior to all others; predominant; effectual; as a sovereign cure. He is in total control of everything there is not one thing the Lord misses. There are approximately about 6.5 billion people on this earth and their is not one person that goes unnoticed by His sovereign hand. Take for example if little Bobby stubs his toe, Mary scored her first goal in soccer the LORD of glory is not sitting up in Heaven going "What happened to little Bobby!" "Why is Mary so happy!" He know Every little thought you are having right now. He knows everything, every little thought, every expression, action, or sin. Even before you say it or do it. Doesn’t that or shouldn't that amaze you! If you don’t believe me. Believe this!. Turn with me to (Daniel 4:35) Listen to what Nebuchadnezzar says at the end of his life in the book of Daniel. All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed (to account) as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven And among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain (hinder, or arrest) His hand Or say to Him, "What have You done?" (Dan 4:35)
As these Psalmists said in (Ps 115:3) But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases. (Ps 135:5-6) For I know (full assurance) that the LORD is great, And our Lord is above all gods. Whatever the LORD pleases He does, In heaven and in earth, In the seas and in all deep places. One of His greatest attributes is that He is sovereign over all things. One of the greatest assurances to the believer is that He is in total control. The Bible says "do not lean on your own understanding" (Prov 3:5) " And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know." (1 Cor 8:2). We as Christian's can know with a shadow of a doubt, that He knows what's best for every situation, even in an unsaved persons life. God controls all things according to His purposes from the good times, even in the worst of times of disaster, heartaches, death, struggles. We live in a fallen and broken world, but we have a High Priest who intercedes for us each and every moment with the Father. We live in a society that says I’m going to do what I want to do, and no one is going to can stop me, I control my own destiny. Satan thought this "I’ will be like the most High God" and he was cast out of Heavenly places. But always remember! But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases (whatever he wants) (Ps 115:3). I love what William Gurnall said "All the plots of hell and commotions on earth have not so much as shaken God's hand to spoil one letter or line he has been drawing." Nothing can shake or disturb God’s perfect plan for His creation. Not Satan or his fallen angels, not even you! "There is a God in heaven who overrules all things for the best; and this is the comfort of my soul" As the late David Brainerd said. We have a God who cares about what He created to bring Him gloryHe is Sovereign and will always be sovereign. I love Steven Curtis Chapman’s song "God is God" because he says in his song "God is God and I am not...... God is God and I’m man". We must have a high view of God in order to understand His great love for us, sinful mankind that He came to give His life for us to please a Holy God. Remember He is not a god in our image. He is a God who created us in His image. We were created for one purpose, and one purpose only to bring glory and praise to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit by our lives here on this earth. We glory Him by knowing and understanding that He is absolutely SOVEREIGN. We glory in Him because we have a high view of the Sovereign.
