Are the Heathen Lost?
Do You Care About the Lost?
By Mike Andrews
Every time I think about the events that took place when Noah was commanded to build the ark, this event really grieves my spirit. Why? Because God poured His wrath on the whole world due to their wickedness, and ignorance of His holiness and grace. The Bible says " And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth..." (Gen 6:6). Sorry! What a sad statement by a holy and perfect God to say that He was sorry for creating human life. How tragic to have to make the statement "The world is so wicked and terrible I must destroy it". Imagine the screaming of voices and the clawing of the people as they tried to get in to the ark. That must have been an unimaginably horrible event in history. Sadly, He is going to do that again. There is going to come a day when God is going to pour His wrath on sinful man once again, but in the meantime He sent His Son to fulfill His wrath by putting Him on the cross to please Yahweh (Isa 53:10) for the sin of mankind. He has given us His son so that we can receive salvation through His shedding blood on the cross and He has written a book so that we can share it with a world that is going to face this wrath one day.
The LORD has called His Christian to go and proclaim to others the wonderful gift of salvation before He comes to judge the earth again. The question we need to ask ourselves is: Do we care about the lost? Most people ask the question: How will they know if they are not told? This is a question that is on the mind of most professing believers. What happens to those who have not heard the word of God? What happens to the unsaved world? We live a world that is full of evil, hatred, murder, and total wickedness due to sin (Rom 3:9-18). All have sinned against a holy God. What will happen to those who have not heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ? God has given each and every person a conscience to understand there is a God, but believing that there is "a god" does not get you redeemed or saved in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Many people today are going to Hell where they will spend a Christ-less eternity. We are just as the people in Noah’s day, ignorant to the Gospel of Christ, a nation of unbelief in the one true God. This is something that should grieve each and every Christian. Many Christians assume that’s all people need; God has given them a conscience and they will find God on their own. That's a false understanding of the Gospel. The Bible says "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Rom 10:17). The people in Noah’s time had a conscience and they chose to disobey a holy and sovereign God. Salvation and faith in the Lord only comes by hearing the Word of God, the Gospel. Paul’s main point of the Gospel message is the revealed Word of God, salvation comes to those who hear and believe the facts of the gospel.
The people in our world are dying in their sins. It doesn’t matter whether you are black, white, purple, or green; whether you are Canadian or Japanese, or a person from some remote unreached tribe. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. He has given us a message and it is a message of eternal life. The only way for a person to attain salvation is through His Word. There is no other name in which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). There are no mistakes with God. If a person denies Christ and His message they will not be saved but spend eternity separated from His holy presence. If a person has not heard the Gospel, God in His omniscience and loving grace will know and He will send someone to share His message. Has He sent you yet? Will they hear before He once again says I’m SORRY.....!
